At the end of March, the Deggendorf Institute of Technology welcomed Prof. Prashanth Asuri from Santa Clara University, California, for an academic visit at the Transformation Lab at Campus Oberschneiding. His four-day visit marked an important step towards deepening international collaboration in the fields of bioengineering, innovation, and applied research.

Within the framework of the project “Next-Gen Enzymes and Bio-scaffolds to Advance Biodegradation of Cellulose Waste”, supported by the Bavaria California Technology Center (BaCaTeC), a key objective of the collaboration is the development of highly active and industrially robust enzymes suitable for large-scale applications. This shared research focus aligns closely with ongoing efforts at the Transformation Lab and partner institutions to advance sustainable and scalable biotechnological solutions.

During his stay, Prof. Asuri delivered two guest lectures titled “Evolving External Partnerships: From Initial Engagement to Strategic Collaboration” and “From Problems to Prototypes: Innovating Healthcare through Design Thinking.” These sessions provided valuable insights into building sustainable partnerships and applying design thinking methodologies to address complex challenges in healthcare and beyond.

As part of the programme, Prof. Asuri and the Transformation Lab team visited the Campus of the Technical University of Munich in Straubing, where they engaged in in-depth discussions with leading researchers and faculty members. The exchange fostered a constructive dialogue on future collaboration opportunities in bioengineering, enzyme technology, and related disciplines. The visit also included engagement with the regional industrial ecosystem in Straubing, highlighted by a meeting with representatives from Bayernhof GmbH. These interactions provided valuable practical perspectives and helped identify potential pathways for translating research outcomes into real-world applications.

Overall, the visit established a strong foundation for future joint research projects and educational initiatives. Planned activities include advancing collaborative work in cellulose-based biomaterials and enzyme bioengineering, as well as pursuing additional funding opportunities to support these efforts.

The partnership between DIT and Santa Clara University underscores a strong commitment to sustainable academic exchange and fosters forward-looking innovations through interdisciplinary research and global collaboration.
